Vladivostok is a city in Russia and is at the eastern terminus of the Trans-Siberian Railway. It is the home of the Russian Pacific Fleet, and as such was off-limits to foreigners and Russians alike until 1992, though it is now opening up to tourism.

Get in

By train

The Trans-Siberian Railway takes you here from Moscow. Fares are from $200 single. Trains to Harbin,China take around 30 hours and cost $50.

By boat

You can reach Japan from here. Ferries leave on alternate weeks for the ports of Niigata and Fushiki. Fares are from ¥25,200 ($235) one-way and the trip takes 2 days. A schedule for the Fushiki-Vladivostok line is here (http://www.euras.co.jp/en/ship.html), though it may be outdated.

By plane

Principal carriers include Aeroflot (http://www.aeroflot.com/) and Vladivostok Air (http://www.vladavia.ru/). Korean Air (http://www.koreanair.com) also offers flights from the continental US.

The airport is 30 km (19 mi) from the centre. There are suburban trains and local buses.
