A few kilometers inland from Cannes, Mougins is a pleasant village set up on its hill and full of restaurants.

mougins Travel Guide :

Mougins

Get There

By Car From the A8 Junction 40 (Cannes), take the N85 penetrante signed for Grasse and Mougins. Take the first exit, turn left on the D3 (signed Mougins Centre), bear left at the roundabout after approx 1km and then turn left across the bridge over the penetrante. The road is narrow but theoretically two way to be careful of unexpected buses or trucks! Park in the free parking at the top of the hill - there are two or three separate parking places, if you decide to try for the one closest to the top do expect to have a job finding a space.

Public Transport There is a frequent bus service between Grasse and Cannes which passes through Mougins. However the usual bus route does not go all the way to the top of the hill so you will have a nice climb to work up an appetite.

Mougins

See

  • The old town is picturesque and has striking views of the French Riviera.
  • There is a market of traditional foodstuffs on Sundays and many of the stalls have free samples.
  • The Museum of Photography.
  • Various galleries in the town
  • On the A8 between Cannes and Antibes is the Museum of Automobiles (also reachable taking the D35 from the penetrante and then the D135 towards Vallauris)
Mougins

Do

On the D35 there are a number of places where you can hike in the forests. These are very pleasant trails. Unlike the ones between Valbonne and Biot there is no running water, however the park by Notre Dame de Vie - where Picasso spent his last years - has a very pretty pond which is the home to many ducks and other waterfowl.

Mougins has a number of Golf courses. If you are desperate for a round of Golf then try one of them.

Mougins

Eat

Mougins has a number of excellent restaurants, at a variety of prices. In summer and at weekends reservations are a good idea as the ambiance is magnificent and popular. Le Bistro de Mougins is charming, has excellent food and is not too pricey, however it does not let you sit outside as some of the other do.

Avoid the Moulin de Mougins down the hill by the exit from the penetrante. This restaurant once had two Michelin stars, it has lost one and may lose its second. Its snobby, pretentions and outrageously priced. If you want to eat at a Michelin starred restaurant and don't like the snooty Cannes hotels then try the Bastide St Antoine in Grasse
