Sansalvador de Jujuy is a perfect jump off point for exploring some of the most desolate and wonderful scenes in the world. At the moment not many gringos around at all and the tourism is mainly Argentinians, Bolivians and Brazillians.

Talk

Most people you will incounter in the Jujuy region will speak only Spanish. There are however large numbers of people from Bolivia and Peru who speak Quechua.

Get in

From Salta its only a two hour bus journey for 3 peso or share a remis and grab a empanada while your waiting some of the best meat empanadas are sold just acoss the road from the bus station where the remise leaves from...the bus station is a fifteen minute slow walk to the centre of town and a taxi should cost no more than three peso...when you arrive walk the length of the makeshit market where you can buy food clothes and coca....cross the bridge and just keep walkin the main street is belgrano.

• Leaving Jujuy travel to Humahaca and take a truffi to Santa Anna a traditional empty town of adobe buildings enclosed by breath taking mountains standing at 5000 meters.

• Trek the 5 hours through spectaclular surroundings to arrive in Paseo Colorado a beautiful tiny town and another 10 hours trek through valle grande to San Francisco where youll find natural thermal baths and los yungas. It is only a two or three hour trek away but beware of the altitude on your return trek this two hour trek could take up to five hours on return.

there are so many different price ranges to choose from and one of the most upscale is miralejos sitting facing the plaza belgrano, not only is the food THE BEST in argentina so is the wine and the coversation.if you want to try some of the sweetest deserts go to casa bindo....you might never finish your desert but its worth it for the sugar high at least.......

theres quite a few hostels in jujuy but none like yok wahi on la madrid the staff enjoy working there and it makes a real difference... whether you speak good Spanish or not these guy will help you find mountains get drunk and laugh a lot!
