Railway was build between 1930 and 1984 and on the most of its length is single track. It is not fully electrfied too. BAM was huge Soviet project, and workers from all parts of Soviet Union were brought to construct it. While travelling on the train pay attention to station buildings. Often they symbolize (look, architecture) the region where workers that build the section came from. Many of these workers married and staied there, so you can find settlers from distant parts of former Soviet Union along the line. In ??? there where rumor about construction of second track and another wave of workers came seeking work, and remained. Construction didn't start.
